SADTU sick and tired of waiting for OSD finalisation
3 August 2009
The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) has issued a letter of demand calling for an urgent sitting of the Education Labour Relation Council, on Thursday (6 August) to finalize on the Occupational Specific Dispensation (OSD) agreement.
This finalisation is more than a month overdue.
The negotiations were supposed to have been finalized by 30 June but continued until July 10 when the employer presented the Draft Collective Agreements, No 2, 3 and 4 of 2009 which SADTU, after holding an emergency National Executive Committee meeting, accepted and agreed to sign.
The employer then indicated they would take the Agreement back to their mandating committee for its approval. Five weeks later, the employers has not signed.
“We have waited for far too long. The patience and morale of our members are at the lowest point,” SADTU`s Acting General Secretary Mugwena Maluleke said.
“This delay is an indication that our government and the department of education do not take seriously education matters. This action is a complete negation of our government to its commitment to make education its main priority,” Maluleke continued.
Report-backs to SADTU members in the provinces, regions and branches to chart a way forward over this impasse, still continue.
This delay has put pressure on salary negotiations and we therefore we call upon government to treat this as a matter of urgency.
