The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) in KwaZulu Natal congratulates her leader, Comrade K. K. Nkosi for his appointment as the MEC for Public Works.
The Union believes that his appointment is informed by his long-earned experience informed by the number of years he has served in the legislature. As the leadership and members today, we have no doubt that Comrade KK would make all of us proud as he executes his new responsibilities. The fact that he has been in the legislature for almost 14 years, serving and chairing several committees confirms his wealth of knowledge and experience justifying his appointment as MEC.
Comrade KK is one of the former leaders of SADTU who served with dedication and commitment. Evidence to this is that he marshalled the revolutionary forces through the struggle against apartheid. As part of the SADTU collective, comrade KK commanded an election campaign that guaranteed the ANC take over in the province.
The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union wish to also remind comrade KK about the campaign launched before his deployment in 2009 – ‘Fight Against Corruption’. As such, if there is anything that the Union can give to Comrade KK as a weapon to use to become successful in the department, would be for him to remain the MEC – the political head of the department and avoid interfering with administration, lead with integrity and humility.
We trust that Comrade KK will ensure that his deployment benefits the working class which is currently swimming in poverty, unemployment, and inequalities. The Department he is entrusted with is responsible for infrastructure and provision and maintenance of buildings and infrastructure to the needy. It is also worth mentioning that some of the historical infrastructural challenges that the Department of Education has will need his intervention as the MEC for Public Works. This is just one of many items that, as the new MEC, he will have to look at.
Once again, congratulations to Comrade K. K. Nkosi . All the best!
