STATEMENT ON UPCOMING SADTU KZN MARCH
The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) in KwaZulu Natal will be marching with the intention of highlighting the challenges faced by the education department especially the schools and teachers in the province.
This march is informed by observations made by the Union and the outcry from teachers, principals, SMTs and office-based teachers that education is deliberately made to collapse by many decisions that are imposed by among others the department of finance in this province
Some of the issues that the march seeks to raise include the following:
1. Appointment of PAG which act against education policies and collective agreements as there are unnecessary delay in almost all the processes in the department thus affecting the operations of schools.
2. Non or late payment of financial allocations to schools.
3. Non appointment of teachers including substitute teachers resulting in some classrooms left without teachers.
4.Non filling of office-based posts which also compromises the support that the district offices have to provide to schools.
5. Non payment of acting allowances to office-based teachers and other employers.
6. Lack of safety and security in schools.
7. Non payment of pay progression.
8. Failure to absorb all qualified Grade R Practitioners.
9. Non implementation of HRM 10 of 2026
Details of the march are as follows:
