SADTU IN THE EASTERN CAPE MOURNS THE FOUR INNOCENT FEMALE TEACHERS KILLED AT TABANKULU PRIMARY SCHOOL
The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU)in the Province of Eastern Cape is shocked, disturbed and perturbed by tragic killing of four innocent female teachers in Tabankulu Primary School located in the Gamalandile Gwayi Region.
The passing on of these educators is a huge loss to the school and the Tabankulu community. Schools have been declared safe h avens for teaching and learning and must remain so at all times. Measures such as proper fencing as a baseline, the employment of security personnel, and the installation of CCTV cameras and panic buttons are critical in strengthening the safety and security of teachers, learners, support staff, parents and all
stakeholders in all schools.
Quality teaching and learning can only take place in an environment that is safe and conducive. SADTU therefore calls upon all relevant State Departments to urgently provide psychosocial services to the entire school community of Tabankulu Primary School We further urge law enforcement agencies to fastrack the investigation processes. Lastly,
SADTU extends its sincere and deepest condolences to the school community of Tabankulu Primary School and especially the affected families.
