South Africa Will Not Be Divided by Foreign Misinformation
The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) strongly condemns the false and inflammatory claims made by U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio alleging that Afrikaners are victims of genocide in South Africa.
These statements are not only factually baseless, but they are also a dangerous attempt to distort South Africa’s democratic reality and sow racial division at a time when our nation is working tirelessly to build unity, justice, and equality.
SADTU views these claims as:
• Politically opportunistic and designed to stoke racial fear and division for foreign political gain.
• Diplomatically irresponsible intended to undermine South Africa’s sovereignty and nonracial democracy on the eve of the G20 Summit.
• Morally offensive and trivializing the real, historical meaning of genocide.
We stand in solidarity with all South Africans—Black, White, Coloured, and Indian, who reject racism in all its forms. Our Constitution enshrines equality, dignity, and non-racialism. SADTU remains committed to building a just, inclusive society where no group is vilified or falsely portrayed as victim or perpetrator for political expediency.
We call on international leaders to engage with South Africa through facts, not fear. Let us not allow misinformation to derail the hard-won gains of our democracy.
No Genocide. No Persecution. No Place for White Supremacy.
South Africa’s Constitution guarantees the rights and dignity of all its people — Black, White, Coloured, and Indian. The notion of a racial genocide against Afrikaners is a fabrication rooted in white supremacist propaganda, not in truth. It insults the memory of real genocides and undermines the lived experiences of communities who have endured systemic violence.
SADTU calls on all South Africans to reject this narrative with moral clarity and patriotic resolve. We must not allow foreign actors to weaponize misinformation for political gain.
A Call for Unity and Vigilance
We urge South Africans to:
• Stand together against racism, bigotry, and attempts to divide us.
• Defend our democracy from external manipulation and internal regression.
• Educate with truth and resist the spread of hate speech disguised as concern.
SADTU reaffirms its commitment to non-racialism, social justice, and the protection of all communities. We will continue to mobilize educators, learners, and citizens to build a South Africa that is inclusive, transparent, and free from the shadows of apartheid ideology.
Let us unite, not in fear, but in courage. Let us defeat white supremacy, not with silence, but with solidarity.
