SADTU TO MEET THE KZN PREMIER – Hon Ntuli
11 JUNE 2025
Following SADTU’s public statement informing the nation about the state of education in KwaZulu-Natal, members have been engaged in morning and lunch pickets across the province.
On 5 June, SADTU wrote to the Premier requesting an urgent meeting with him and the MECs for Education and Finance. In the request, the Union emphasized the urgency, particularly as examinations draw near. Many schools have raised concerns about how they are expected to administer exams without receiving the necessary funding from the Department
SADTU welcomes the prompt response by the Premier, who ensured that the meeting was scheduled as requested.
As a result, today, 11 June 2025, SADTU KZN meets with Premier Hon. Ntuli to address the funding crisis in schools. It is widely acknowledged that these challenges stem from budget cuts implemented in recent years, along with decisions taken by the KZN Department of Finance. These include cash blocking, moratoriums on filling vacancies, and the freezing of approved posts on the Department’s organizational structure. The Union firmly believes that the Premier is in a better position to intervene, as has been done in other provinces.
Go Public. Fund Education.
