SADTU TO HOST 2025 SATO GAMES
The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) is going to host the 2025 Southern African Teachers’ Organisation (SAT0) Games in KwaZulu-Natal, Durban from 29 to 31 August 2025.
More than 3000 educators from teachers’ unions in the SADC Region are expected to take part in these friendly games which are aimed at strengthening relations and solidary among teacher unions in the region. Participating unions are from Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Lesotho, Zambia, eSwatini, Angola, Tanzania and Zimbabwe and South Africa.
The three-day event will see members from these unions participating in men and women soccer, netball, volleyball, basketball, lawn tennis, table tennis athletics, pool, chess, and darts.
SADTU General Secretary, Dr Mugwena Maluleke, said the Union was honoured to host the event, “Sport is the most effective unifier. The educators from the different teachers’ unions will have a chance to gather and network. The more than three thousand teachers will not only play games but visit places of interest and this will benefit the economy of the city,” he said.
To make the event to be a success, the Union is working closely with the KwaZulu Natal Sports Confederation. The SATO Executive Committee, together with Sport Confederation President, Mr Thami Mchunu will host the SATO Games Launch and Draw on Monday, 11 August.
