SADTU SUPPORTS COSATU’S INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR DECENT WORK
The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) will join pickets and marches across in towns and cities across all nine provinces organised by its federation, COSATU as part of the National Day of Action to mark the International Day of Decent Work on Tuesday, 07 October 2025.
The International Day for Decent Work is commemorated globally by trade union to demand democracy that delivers decent work, to call for an end to the capture of public policy by the corporate and to reaffirm the fight for peace, justice and equality.
Workers in South Africa deserve decent work and improved conditions of employment, especially in the face of growing retrenchments and job cuts resulting from austerity measures.
SADTU, led by COSATU will use these pickets and marches to amplify its call for:
- An end to austerity measures and the privatisation of education as these undermine workers’ rights and the quality of public education
• The filling of vacant posts in education to ease the workload of teachers in overcrowded classrooms
• Increased mental health support for education workers
• Strengthened safety and security of employees at institutions of learning.
SADTU stands firmly in solidarity will all workers in their struggle for decent work, dignity and social justice.
