SADTU KZN STATEMENT ON THE GRUESOME KILLING OF CDE BONISIWE NDIMA:
03/04/2025
SADTU KwaZulu-Natal woke up on the morning of 28 March 2025 to the
shocking and disturbing news of the brutal murder of Cde Winlove Bonisiwe
Ndima, who was shot and killed in a hail of bullets on her way to a MANCO
meeting.
It is alleged that as she left home, she was ambushed by unknown armed men
who fired eight (8) bullets at her. She tragically succumbed to her gunshot
wounds and died at the scene.
Cde Ndima was initially seconded as Acting Circuit Manager of Loskop Circuit
under Umzinyathi District before being permanently appointed to the position
in 2015. At the time of her passing, she was appointed as acting CES: Circuit
Management at Escourt CMC, a role she held since June 2024. Prior to these
appointments, Comrade Ndima was the principal of Lukazi primary principal.
Throughout her career, she remained a loyal and disciplined member of the
SADTU.
SADTU KwaZulu-Natal extends its sincere condolences to the family of Cde
Ndima, her colleagues, and subordinates. We are further devastated by the
fact that she died in the line of duty performing voluntary work, acting in a
position for which she was not being remunerated.
We strongly condemn the barbaric act carried out by ruthless criminals against
a woman whose only mission was to serve her community with dedication and
diligence. The on-going gender-based violence in our society, coupled with
the rising levels of crime and brutality, is utterly deplorable. SADTU stands firm
against these senseless acts of violence, especially when they are committed
against defenceless education workers who should be protected and
supported by the very communities they serve.
We call on anyone with information that could lead to the apprehension of
these murderers to come forward and report such to the nearest police station.
Furthermore, SADTU urges Department of Education in KZN to go beyond
issuing condolence statements and instead, take proactive measures to
investigate the killings of teachers and education workers. It would be great if
the department were to call on the Crime Intelligence Unit to prioritise this issue,
particularly in the uThukela District – Escourt to prevent further deaths.
The funeral service for Comrade Ndima will take place on the 6th of April 2025
at Durnacol.
MAY HER REVOLUTIONARY SOUL REST IN ETERNAL PEACE.
The End
