The collision, involving multiple vehicles near the Putfontein Road off-ramp, included a private scholar transport vehicle ferrying children to school. Among the deceased are two siblings in Grade 1 and Grade 3 from Tom Newby Primary, a Grade 1 learner from Rynfield Primary, and a Grade R learner from the ECD Centre. Additionally, a Grade 3 girl from Rynfield is in a critical condition in hospital.
SADTU stands in solidarity with the grieving families, friends, and school communities. We extend our heartfelt condolences and support during this difficult time. The union recognises the profound impact of this tragedy and is committed to assisting in any way possible.
SADTU General Secretary Mugwena Maluleke stated, “This tragic accident has left us all in deep sorrow. We mourn the loss of these young lives and extend our deepest sympathies to their families and the school communities. SADTU is calling for community support to the affected schools and ECD Centre during this time of grief.”
