The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) in KwaZulu-Natal is in shock following the death of Comrade Mngwengwe Nhlanhla, the Chairperson of Vela Makhanya branch, who passed on the 12th of February 2024. At the time of his demise, Comrade Mngwengwe as he was affectionately known, was the principal of Saphumelela Full-Service school in Umlazi District.
The Union and membership find it difficult to accept that comrade Mngwengwe is no more. He was an incredibly supportive and instrumental in the development of new leaders. He believed in unity and would do everything possible to facilitate unity among members and structures of SADTU.
As members of SADTU in the province of Kwazulu Natal and in Mzi Mthembu Region in particular, we lower our banner in remembrance of our leader. We are mindful of the reality that ours now is to continue with his good teachings, build and grow our Union.
We send our sincerest condolences to the family, the school learners, his colleagues, and the community he served.
Members of SADTU in the region will join hands with the Department of Education Umbumbulu CMC as they attend the memorial service today at Adams College. The funeral will be at Adams Sports Ground – Pavilion on the 17th of February 2024.
