MEDIA ALERT – SADTU TO CONVENE ITS 10TH NATIONAL CONGRESS
The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) will hold its 10th National Congress at the Birchwood Hotel & Conference Centre in Boksburg from the 25th to 28th of September 2023.
The National Congress is the supreme governing body of the Union. It meets at least once every five years to, among others, adopt policies by means of resolutions in furtherance of the aims and objectives of the Union, elects national office bearers, considers, and decide on amendments to the constitution, codes of ethics, codes of discipline and standing rules, consider financial reports including auditors’ reports and reports from the National General Council, National Executive Committee and National Office Bearers.
To be held under the theme, “Mobilising the consciousness and uniting revolutionary professionals in strengthening foundational learning and functional skills, to advance including and sustainable economic growth in pursuance of a socialist society,” the Congress will bring together close to 2000 delegates from the nine provinces, guests from sister unions locally and internationally and other stakeholders.
The Deputy President of South Africa, Honourable Paul Mashatile will deliver the keynote address. Representatives from the Tripartite Alliance, representatives from the Departments of Basic Education and Higher Education & Training and international Union’s partners will address the Congress.
