The South African Democratic Teacher’s Union in Limpopo Province will host a function to honour principals of schools who excelled in the 2019 National Senior Certificate Matric Results. The awards will be extended to the principals of schools that attained more than 80% passes and have demonstrated excellent leadership qualities in schools they lead.
The union embarked on this gesture as a result of recognising the critical and important roles principals play in leading and managing their schools towards achieving excellent educational outcomes. About 350 principals of schools drawn from across the length and breadth of the province will attend the ceremony.
While this year the focus is on principals, the union will in 2021 extend the gesture to educators who do great work in class in their different areas of specialisation. The categories to be awarded will be for all the best performing schools in the region (80% and above), best performing school in each of our six regions and overall best performing school in the entire province. The union is doing this in furtherance of one of the pillars of our 2030 Vision of Creating a Learning Nation.
As part of our response to the President of the Country, His Excellency Cyril Ramaphosa to encourage both the learners and society broadly to engage in reading, the union is currently rolling out training to 600 educators in the Province on the Primary Schools Reading Improvement Programme through the Teacher Union Collaboration Programme with the Department of Education.
