We wish to congratulate all learners who throughout the year made great sacrifices and dedicated themselves in order to achieve these sterling results.
We further congratulate all teachers who toil and dedicate themselves to educate the nation. The majority of teachers do so under very difficult and trying conditions.
We further congratulate all principals and thank them for steering their schools towards excellence
We wish to thank all parents who gave invaluable support to these learners and we also recognise the supportive role of School Governing Bodies (SGBs) and their associations.
We acknowledge the role played by the Department of Education and its officials.
However, we must recognise that there are learners who did not pass. They must be given support. We call on the Department to provide a supported second chance platform to these learners.
The union will this year support all progressive programs towards achieving a 100% pass rate and we call on the department to implement the following:
Fill in all curriculum and teacher support posts particularly in the Districts;
Respect all resolutions and agreements negotiated at bargaining chambers;
Lift teacher morale and reduce wellness cases by efficient handling of HR related issues such as contracting of temporary teachers, payment of salaries and subsidies;
Strengthen Early childhood development by paying all ECD practitioners with a Level 5 better wages and makE them permanent.
Lastly the union and its members, who constitute a majority of the entire teaching force, will continue to be available to engage on the way forward with the Department and other stakeholders, united in the quest to improve the education sector.
