The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) in the Eastern Cape shall honour more than 300 members who have excelled in their areas of specialisation that include among others, attaining more than 80% passes in the subjects they taught in the 2019 National Senior Certificate examinations, excelling in organising extra-curricular activities in their schools, demonstrating excellent leadership qualities, etc.
The awards initiative started in 2018 with 111 members receiving awards. The number grew to 300 in 2019. This year, more than 300 will be awarded in different categories that include; best school principal; special school, best performing region, etc.
SADTU Eastern Cape said the event is part of fulfilling one of the union’s 2030 Vision Pillars – Creating a Learning Nation. As the Union creates a learning nation, it has a duty to ensure that the quality of education is improved and sustained. The event is a positive symbol of promoting excellence.
