The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) held its third ordinary meeting on 17 September 2021. The NEC, as a structure where the management of the affairs of the union are vested, deliberated and took decisions on organisational, educational, labour, socio-economic, political and international matters.
Non-Payment of Temporary Teachers and Screeners by the Northern Cape Department of Education
SADTU in the Northern Cape is disturbed by the current state of affairs in the Province, where screeners and teachers have not been paid for two to three months.
I AM A SCHOOL FAN – Taking on violence at schools
Johannesburg, 30 AUGUST 2021: Driven by deep concern over the increase in violence at and around schools, The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) launched the “I Am a School Fan” campaign against violence in schools in 2019. The campaign aims to mobilise all stakeholders including parents, teachers, learners, and government departments to address school-related violence in all its forms. As of 30 August 2021, SADTU will partner with Old Mutual, Brand South Africa and UNICEF to gain more traction and drive awareness throughout South Africa.

Statement of SADTU - KZN on the Reopening of schools
The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union has been monitoring the reopening of schools with the purpose of ascertaining whether all schools are ready for reopen and begin with their teaching and learning. The reopening for the third term takes place with teachers, learners and parents having a lot of uncertainties informed by the incidences of the past two weeks which could not leave out schools. About 137 schools were reported as having been vandalised, some had break-ins whilst others suffered arson damages.

The 23rd of June 2021 has been announced as the start date for the vaccination of teachers and other education workers. This progressive move is welcomed by SADTU in KZN based on the understanding of how critical it is for teachers and education workers to be prioritised for the vaccine. SADTU NW to Honour Best Performing Schools
The South African Democratic Teachers' Union in the North West (SADTU NW) shall honour more than 50 schools that performed well in the 2020 academic year. The various categories of schools that will be awarded include Quintile 1-3 schools that accomplished between 90 - 100 %, those that performed between 80-90%, Top Quintile 4 schools and Best Rural schools.
SADTU calls for swift action following alleged rape of a learner
SADTU Gauteng is dismayed by the report of alleged rape of Umqhele Secondary school learner in Ivory Park. The Grade 10 learner was allegedly raped by a teacher who is currently on the run. This incident has caused an uproar to the extent of disruption of schooling in the area.
SADTU Statement of SADTU in KZN following the PEC meeting

This media conference will deal with the decisions of the PEC on several issues that affect teaching and learning. The North West Department of Education is failing to provide Schools with Educators
The South African Democratic Teachers' Union in the North West (SADTU NW) has noted, with concern, the failure by the North West Department of Education to provide schools with revised Post Provisioning Norms (PPNs) two weeks into the new term. What concerns the Union most is that schools with huge enrolment, after submitting the 10-day snap surveys, are left in limbo to find solutions on their own.
