The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) held its third ordinary meeting on 17 September 2021. The NEC, as a structure where the management of the affairs of the union are vested, deliberated and took decisions on organisational, educational, labour, socio-economic, political and international matters.
SADTU in the Northern Cape is disturbed by the current state of affairs in the Province, where screeners and teachers have not been paid for two to three months.
Johannesburg, 30 AUGUST 2021: Driven by deep concern over the increase in violence at and around schools, The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) launched the “I Am a School Fan” campaign against violence in schools in 2019. The campaign aims to mobilise all stakeholders including parents, teachers, learners, and government departments to address school-related violence in all its forms. As of 30 August 2021, SADTU will partner with Old Mutual, Brand South Africa and UNICEF to gain more traction and drive awareness throughout South Africa.

The South African Democratic Teachers' Union in the North West (SADTU NW) shall honour more than 50 schools that performed well in the 2020 academic year. The various categories of schools that will be awarded include Quintile 1-3 schools that accomplished between 90 - 100 %, those that performed between 80-90%, Top Quintile 4 schools and Best Rural schools.
SADTU Gauteng is dismayed by the report of alleged rape of Umqhele Secondary school learner in Ivory Park. The Grade 10 learner was allegedly raped by a teacher who is currently on the run. This incident has caused an uproar to the extent of disruption of schooling in the area.
