The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union in the Eastern Cape, held a successful Provincial General Council (PGC) from Friday 12 until 13 July, 2019 at Regents Hotel in East London.
With the increase of violence in schools that affect the provisioning of quality public education, SADTU Free State has played a pivotal role in the convening of school safety summit by Free State Department of Education on 22 - 23 February 2019. The summit emerged with concrete resolutions, which resulted in the establishment of provincial steering committee to monitor implementation of these resolutions.

The South African Democratic Teachers Union in the Free State, in its Provincial General Council held on 12-23 April 2019, repositioned itself to play its revolutionary task by pledging support to communities affected by Cyclone Idai in neighbouring countries. SADTU Gauteng notes the change in the deployment of MEC for Education from Comrade Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko to Comrade Panyaza Lesufi. We also note and welcome the incorporation of youth development into this portfolio as this will help to address high levels of unskilled and unemployment youth. We acknowledge the complexity of constituting an executive which includes listening to the voices of stakeholders and the citizens. We congratulate the Executive and all other comrades deployed to the legislature in various capacities. All hands on deck now.
SADTU Northern Cape welcome and congratulate the newly appointment MEC for Education, Hounaroble Macollen Jack. The Premier, Dr Zamani Saul voiced out in his inaugural speech that education is a very critical department and his plan is to get it back on the right path.

We, the 140 delegates gathered at Woodlands Lodge in Parys, representing over 14 000 members in the province, attended the Provincial General Council (PGC) convened under the theme “Restore the character of SADTU as a Union of Revolutionary Professionals, Agents of Change and Champions of Peoples Education for Peoples Power, in pursuit of Socialism”. Our meeting is dictated by our constitution which directs the PGC to adopt policy issues of major importance in between conferences.
SADTU Limpopo Province has noted with great concern the persistent allegation of corruption levelled against the MEC of Education, Kgetjepe Ishmael as reported in the City Press newspaper.
Following numerous defamatory statements and utterances made by leaders of the South African Liberated Public Service Workers' Union (SALIPSWU), Thobile Ntola and Mbuyiseni Mathonsi against the South African Democratic Teachers' Union (SADTU) and certain of its leaders, SADTU and the affected leaders have initiated legal proceedings in both the Durban and Pretoria High Courts to sue for damages arising out of these reckless and defamatory statements.
The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) welcomes the conclusion of the South African Council of Educators (SACE) and the South African Police Service investigations into allegations that the Provincial Secretary of SADTU in KZN, Nomarashiya Caluza, did not have initial professional teaching qualifications and/or that her academic qualifications were fraudulent. Even though there are good men, there are still pockets who see themselves as superior to women.
