AFT, SADTU letter to Pearson
It goes without saying that the curriculum we use to teach our children is one of the most important aspects of our schools. That is why we were so horrified to see a Pearson school textbook teaching the children of South Africa to blame victims of sexual violence for their assaults. This is completely unacceptable, and we reject any explanation put forward by Pearson that this was an oversight. It is not a simple oversight when the sections of the text in question were written, edited and published by the world`s largest supplier of educational materials.
SADTU Western Cape Statement on reports of violence and intimidation during the Systemic Evaluation Campaign
The South African Democratic Teachers` Union in the Western Cape would like to distance itself from news reports indicating that some of our members were involved in acts of violence and intimidation at some schools in the province. We condemn the use of violence in the strongest terms; however we make no secret of the fact that we are driving the campaign aimed at drawing the attention of WCED to stop administering these systemic tests.

SADTU KwaZulu-Natal notes that the murder trial of the alleged killers of our Mbuso Shabalala Regional Chairperson Comrade Nkosinathi Cyril Zondi resumed on Tuesday, 4 October, 2016. Comrade Zondi was also the Principal of Nyonemhlophe High School under the Ugu District.

SADTU was established in 1990, in the presence of Nelson Mandela, following a directive from the ANC under teacher Oliver Tambo given in the late 1980s during the preparation of the famous Harare Declaration.

Progress on the issue of non-payment of temporary teachers in Limpopo and other matters
The Limpopo Primer`s office has been concerned about SADTU`s pickets and calls for a protest march and strikes over the non-payment of salaries of temporary teachers. The Office convened a meeting between SADTU, Limpopo Department of Education and Provincial Treasury. The meeting was attended by all MEC`s of the concerned departments.

SADTU Limpopo Media statement on the non-payment of salaries of Temporary Teachers
It is with greatest disappointment and concern to realise that teachers and schools still experience the worst treatment by the Limpopo Department of Education to an extent that more than 205 temporary teachers have not been paid since April 2016. It is unthinkable, at this time of democracy in South Africa that teachers are subjected to this bad and unfair labour practice and are still expected to deliver quality public education whilst the department treats them as not worthy of human beings.
