SADTU Women’s Day

7 August 2020

The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU), the biggest union in the education and the public service sectors, will join millions of South Africans in celebrating the National Women’s Day on the 9th of August.

The celebration will take place virtually on Zoom where the Union’ close to 700 gender conveners from branch to provincial levels and members of the National Executive Committee are expected to join and pay tribute to generations of women who struggled for the political and economic emancipation of women in South Africa.

The day will be marked by speeches from the leaders of the Tripartite Alliance, followed by a panel discussion to address issues of gender based violence, women’s struggles in the classroom and the ratification of ILO Convention 190 which recognises the right of everyone to a workplace that is free from violence and harassment including gender-based violence.

The media as well as the general membership of SADTU and the public at large are invited to follow the proceedings on the SADTU Facebook page:  South African Democratic Teachers’ Union - SADTU.
