SADTU, SIHOLD AND Office of Emalahleni mayor to celebrate Nelson Mandela day

SADTU’s investment company, SIHOLD,and the Union have joined the call by the Nelson Mandela Foundation to devote 67 minutes of their time in helping others to mark Nelson Mandela Day on Friday, 18 July at KwaGuqa in Emalahleni.

SADTU and SIHOLD, in partnership with the Office of the Mayor of Emalahleni and the Department of Correctional Services in Emalahleni, will celebrate the Nelson Mandela Day in the province of Mpumalanga.

The beneficiary organizations that we will be working with are the KwaGuqa Disability Association Centre and Thanduxolo Specialised School. KwaGuqa Disability Centre has 40 trainees who are trained in a variety of handcraft and 10 staff members and is in need of materials, work equipment, office equipment and refurbishment.

The only financial support the centre receives is from the Mpumalanga Department of Social Services. The centre raises additional funding through the refurbishment of wheelchairs and the manufacturing of wooden materials, such as kennels and “wendy houses”.  Learners and staff from the nearby Thanduxolo Specialized School are also expected to join in the celebrations at KwaGuqa Centre.

Representatives from SADTU, SIHOLD, the Office of the Mayor of Emalahleni, Correctional Services District Office and representatives from corporate companies Old Mutual and Metropolitan will gather at the school to clean the centre, donate equipment and offer any assistance needed by the centre. SADTU’s Acting President Magope Maphila will deliver the keynote address.
