SADTU welcomes the announcement of the North West Provincial EXCO by Honourable Premier, Cde Supra Mahumapelo.

We wish to congratulate particularly MEC for Education and Sports, Honourable Wendy Matsemela for being retained in the Education portfolio, Honourable Desbo Mohono and Honourable Madoda Sambatha who comes through as worthy representatives of the Alliance and the working class in the Provincial Legislature.

We hope that the MEC for Education and Sports will do everything in her power to ensure that labour peace within the Department is maintained. Thus we expect the MEC to promote and heighten consultations with stakeholders from time to time, demonstrate a respect for collective bargaining processes in the education sector as well as re-commit to addressing the sticky issues which SADTU in particular continue to raise from time to time.

We wish to reaffirm our position that we will work hard to ensure the improvement of quality of teaching and learning in our schools. We have to succeed because failure is not an option.

We congratulate all the MEC’s in the Legislature and hope they will live up to the  expectations of the people of North West to deliver services and ensure that this period does not experience unnecessary labour and civil unrest as a result of social distances, lack of capacity by leaders and sheer disregard for the social contract indelibly signed with the citizens through voting the ANC back into leadership and governance of this province.

SADTU vehemently distances itself from any statement seeking to bemoan, cast aspersions and characterise the North West Provincial EXCO announced. Indeed Congratulations are in order, “Letsema le bolotse, ebile le thata ka mong, a re ipeleng re direleng setshaba ka maatlametlo!!!”
