SADTU North West condemns the burning and damaging of school property

19 October 2020

The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union in the North West Province (SADTU NW) is deeply concerned about the burning and destruction of property in four schools around Moruleng in the Rustenburg area.

SADTU condemns, in strongest terms possible, the unacceptable and irresponsible act by these perpetrators.

This barbaric act occurs whilst the education system is still facing difficult and trying times due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has interrupted learning and teaching. We cannot afford the deliberate acts of reversing the gains of our democracy by destroying infrastructure which is highly needed in our communities.

We want to make a humble call to the communities in affected areas to assist by reporting the perpetrators and safeguarding our schools in defence of our children’s future.

We call on the law enforcement institutions to work around the clock to hunt down the perpetrators and harsh punishment should be meted out against those found guilty.
