SADTU Limpopo Province media statement on the appointment of Ms Khatutshelo Dedereen as the new head of the Department

11 May 2021

The South African Democratic Teachers' Union (SADTU) in Limpopo Province wishes to congratulate and welcome the appointment of Ms Khathutshelo Dedereen as new Head of the Department of the Limpopo Department of Education. Ms Dedereen is a seasoned academic who has vast experience serving in various capacities in the department. She was recently appointed as the Acting Head of the Department during the most tumultuous period of the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and she acquitted herself excellently given the challenges she was confronted with. We strongly believe that as someone who is accustomed to the many challenges confronting the department she will invest much of her energy and resource to address them.

More importantly, we believe that Ms Dedereen would work together with all the various stakeholders in the department to better the academic outcomes of education in the Province, the legacy challenges of poor and dilapidated school infrastructure, provisioning of water and sanitation in schools, proper ablution facilities, ICT in all of our schools are but some of the challenges that her office must address.

The union remains available to engage meaningfully with her office to address the many issues of mutual interest and irritations confronting us in the department.
