The biggest teacher and education workers union SADTU will tomorrow (Friday) officially launch its Promotion of Quality Public Education Campaign to coincide with the International Women’s Day – 8th March.

The launch of the Campaign is in line with the Union’s 2030 Vision of creating a learning nation. In promoting quality public education, the Union has put together the following campaigns: the Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign (QLTC) of which SADTU is signatory to; Adopt-A-School campaign which is part of NEDLAC’s Education Accord

The Quality Learning and Teaching campaign calls on all stakeholders in education – teachers, parents, learners, communities and the Department of Basic Education - to know and play their roles in education. Teachers are expected to be in class, on time, prepared and teaching.

On the Adopt-A-School campaign, members of the national Executive Committee, provincial and regional leaders of SADTU have adopted schools in order to provide support such as raising funds for them.

As part of promoting good ethics and values, SADTU has adopted the first Friday of every month as a SADTU Day. On this day members are encouraged to wear SADTU paraphernalia, be punctual, prepared and work. refrain from sexual relationships with the learners and to stop meting out corporal punishment.

We will also use the launch to raise awareness the rising scourge of violence against women and children.
