The South African Democratic Teachers Union has heartily welcomed news of the scheduled re-opening of Ndebele Teacher Training College Campus in Mpumalanga next week. This was announced by Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande while addressing a New Age business briefing yesterday (Thursday).
Training at the college will be facilitated by the University of Johannesburg.
Three more colleges will be opened next year in KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and the Eastern Cape, the Minister announced.
To SADTU, the fact that the college will open next week is the best news so far this year. It is an answer to the pleas we have been making for many years because the university teacher training route was failing to overcome teacher shortages.
We hope the opening of this college and the others to come, will not only increase the number of teachers but contribute towards bringing quality education. Our education system requires highly qualified teachers for quality public education. The deliberate improvement of our teachers` competencies will improve learner achievement.
