3 June 2019
The South African Democratic Teachers Union in the Free State, in its Provincial General Council held on 12-23 April 2019, repositioned itself to play its revolutionary task by pledging support to communities affected by Cyclone Idai in neighbouring countries. The Provincial General Council considered the important role that the union should play to instil ubuntu amongst learners, teachers, parents and society at large, especially in instances of disaster.
Back home in the Province the community of Bronville in Welkom was recently affected by heavy floods that left many families homeless and without clothes, furniture and food. Whilst we acknowledge and appreciate contributions and support they received from various stakeholders, we feel obliged as a revolutionary trade union to also contribute to the community.
It is for this purpose that SADTU in Free State will distribute clothes donated by her members to the identified community members of Bronville. We hope that our contribution will go a long way in making a difference in the lives of affected learners and their families.
