SADTU in the Free State is disappointed and angered by the conduct of Department of Education to return Director General Bobby Soobrayan to the office, despite the glaring evidence that he has messed up our education and that educators have not benefited since being in charge of the administration.

We regard this as provocation of educators and in particular SADTU members. We have been eagerly waiting for the conclusion of 0,5% parity which the department has deliberately put under the carpet.

For the stability and labour peace in the education sector we call on the department to speedily ensure that the 0,5% parity is concluded and paid to educators retrospective to 2009.

With the Soobrayan once more at the helm of the administration we are left with no option but to ballot our members on action to be taken, not ruling out  strike action.

On state of the union

Our Provincial Executive Committee has reaffirmed our decision to allow the internal processes within both the union and the federation as resolved by the NGC to unfold. It is unfortunate to learn that there are structures which define themselves outside the decision taken in our structural meeting where all the regions and provinces were represented.

We call on all our members in the province to be always guided by the principle of organisational discipline and not be confused by any person or structure that seek to undermine the decisions of the collective. As SADTU we have made our position clear on the issue of Special Congress of the Federation and members should not be confused by some pronouncements in the province by some affiliates.
