SADTU Congratulates the 2021 AU Teacher Award Winner

2 December 2021

The South African Democratic Teachers' Union (SADTU) congratulates her member and principal of Sunrise View Secondary School in the North West Province, Agnes Rasesemola for winning the 2021 African Union Continental Teacher Award.

SADTU is immensely proud of Rasesemola's recognition in the continent. A teacher and leader, she always strives to excel in the profession and makes the best of the opportunity given to liberate an African child by giving them the best quality public education. She has equally been recognised in South Africa. Her accolades include being the recipient of the 2018 Excellence in
Secondary School Leadership Award in the National Teaching Awards.

The AU Award was established to show respect for teachers and the teaching profession by encouraging and celebrating committed teachers in Africa. It hopes to raise the status of teaching and inspire the best possible candidates to join the teaching profession. Rasesemola was nominated by the Department of Basic Education to represent South Africa at this prestigious continental award.

SADTU hopes the award will go a long way towards restoring the status of teachers and the profession in the society as teachers play a crucial role as community builders and agents of change.
