SADTU in the Northern Cape is disturbed by the current state of affairs in the Province, where screeners and teachers have not been paid for two to three months.
We are in the midst of COVID 19 pandemic where we have to observe COVID 19 Protocols in order to preserve lives, livelihoods, and further make learning institutions safe environment for teaching and learning.
The same schools will be expected to produce results at the end of the year whereas our Government does not care about the conditions of service of these employees and by extension, the learners.
The stance by Government to declare a moratorium on filling of posts and to take appointment functions of the education sector to treasury is disrupting the smooth running of schools. The action has the potential to negatively affect the performance of the Province that is currently ranked last.
This is a serious indictment on the part of the employer and we are concerned.
We call on the Department of Education to expedite the payment of these teachers and screeners.
