Joint Media Statement: Public Service Unions Wage Negotiations

18 April 2018

Unions in the Public Service, representing approximately more than 1.2 million workers have commenced with wage negotiations since September 2017 in the Public Service Co-ordinating Bargaining Council.

After 7 months of negotiations in good faith by labour, there have been a number of delays and obstacles presented by the employer in the finalization of a wage agreement. Labour condemns these delaying tactics and unnecessary postponements with the contempt that it deserves.

Negotiators have reached the highest level of indignation having had to negotiate overnight on a few occasions in the interest of workers and the Public at large.  The strike by the employer has to come an end and negotiations are set to resume today 18 April 2018 at 17:00.  The aim is to ensure that the process is complete by Friday, 20 April 2018.

The Trade Unions within the Public Service will decide and make a pronouncement on the way forward by no later than Monday, 23 April 2018.
