National office bearers

 President  President: Cde Thobile Ntola

Cde Ntola is a member of the Kwazakhele Branch in the Eastern Cape and has been a member of the Union since its inception. He was previously Deputy Chairperson of SADTU in the Eastern Cape. He was elected the Deputy President of SADTU during 2006 Congress and later became its President during the 2008 NGC. He teaches science and is a principal of the Chukile Senior Secondary School.His priorities for the next two years are to unite the organization and to ensure that every member understands his/her role in transforming society with and for the working class  

 

maphila  Deputy President : CdeMagope Maphila
Magope Lucas Maphila is a founder member of SADTU from SEPTU-NEUSA in Sekhukhuneland, Limpopo.   He has served SADTU as a site steward, branch education convenor, branch and regional secretary, regional deputy chairperson and chairperson of Limpopo province. Comrade Maphila is an additional member in the executive committee of the ANC Sekhukhuneland Region. Maphila is the principal of Ramphelane Secondary School in Manganeng village. He teaches English and History. His priorities include contributing in political education programmes, working to create unity of purpose in and among structures and helping to build a second layer of leadership within the collective mandate.
  

Vice President(Education): Cde Veronica Hofmeester 

Comrade Veronica Hofmeester joined SADTU at its inception in 1990 and became branch education convener. Over the years, she rose to become the provincial Education Convener for the Western Cape province. Her career in teaching spans over 30 years. She started teaching in a rural multi-grade school before moving to an urban school – Protea Primary School in Atlanta where she became the Head of Department for Languages and Social Sciences. She was also responsible for Curriculum Development. Cde Hofmeester has also engaged in Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) programmes and taught evening classes on a voluntary basis. Her dream is to see transformation in education and for education to be more accessible to the poor. The key priorities of the Education Desk are to ensure  that SADTU plays a significant role in building a progressive mass movement in education that will drive education transformation in South Africa; to work together with the Alliance partners towards the mobilisation and capacitation of the workers and the poor to be at the centre of their own educational transformation. 

 

Mpule Dorcus Sekabate – SADTU Vice President (Gender)

Comrade Mpule Dorcus Sekabate was first elected as Vice President for Gender during SADTU’s  National General Council in 2009. She was re-elected unopposed at SADTU’s 7th National Congress in October 2010. Comrade Sekabate joined SADTU in 1993 and became a member of the Marquad branch in the Free State. She first served her branch as a media liaison person before moving to become a site steward and gender convener for the Inland region.  After serving for two terms as regional gender convener, she went back to her ailing Marquad branch to revive it. She started as an ordinary member and rose to become the branch chairperson. In the 6th National Congress in 2006, Comrade Sekabate contested for the position of Vice President for Gender but lost. She again contested in the 2009 National General Council and won.  Cde Sekabate is deputy principal and Maths teacher at Tlokola Secondary School in the Free State.  During her term of office as Vice President for Gender, Cde Sekabate would like create a wide pool of women leaders by developing that will provide women with skills and help them understand leadership challenges. She says the programmes should be implemented in all the structures of the Union - from branch to national levels.

gs  General Secretary: Cde Mugwena Maluleke

Cde Maluleke Joined SADTU at its inception and is a member of the Soshanguve Branch,Gauteng. He has held number of leadership position within SADTU. He teaches mathematics and is principal of the Rodney Mokoena Junior Secondary School.His priorities for this year is to help in achieving the objectives  of the Organisation to service its members.  He is currently the General Secretary. 

 Dolopi

Deputy General Secretary : Cde Nkosana Dolopi

Nkosana Dolopi joined Sadtu in 1995.He rose through the ranks to become provincial education convener and thereafter,provincial secretary. He is a member of Siyancuma Branch in the Northern Cape. Comrade Dolopi has taught at Griquatown Combined School where he was also head of department for social sciences. Dolopi’s main priorities are organizational renewal with special focus on empowering members and leaders.

 

        National Treasurer: Cde Lindiwe Matshwane 

Comrade Lindiwe Motshwane was elected as national treasurer during SADTU’s 7th National Congress held in October 2010. She joined SADTU in 1995. She became a site steward at Tinhlonhla Secondary School in Jeppes Reef, Mpumalanga where she is the Head of Department for Curriculum Co-ordination. Cde Motshwane rose to become the chairperson of Khulangwane branch, treasurer and deputy chairperson of Lowveld Region now called Ehlanzeni. Cde Motshwane is former Mpumalanga Gender Convener and Treasurer. She is a member of the Solly Maseko branch of the ANC and currently Secretary of the Mbombela branch of the SACP. Her priorities are to build capacity on appropriate and effective management and accountability for organizational resources within the Union.  Cde Motshwane says that, by the end of her term (2014), she would want to see each and every structure of SADTU - from branch to national – being financially accountable.
