SADTU National General Council - 25-27 November 2011
The media are hereby invited to SADTU’s National General Council (NGC) which takes place from Friday, 25 November – 27 November, 2011 at Velmore Conference Centre in Erasmia, Tshwane.
SACP General Secretary Blade Nzimande, COSATU Deputy General Secretary Bheki Ntshalintshali and Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga are among the noted speakers due to address the National General Council.
The NGC meeting takes place on an annual basis to ratify the decisions of the National Executive Committee and to adopt policy on issues of major importance.
Some of the issues to be dealt include transformation of education in South Africa focusing on among other things, the use of mother tongue as a language of instruction and the development of indigenous languages; teacher salaries following the presentation by the ELRC to the Education Parliamentary Portfolio committee; and ANC Centenary celebrations.
The first day of the meeting will have an open session from 09:30am until 1pm.
The large part of the second day will remain closed except for the gala dinner in the evening. The Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Hlengiwe Mkhize will address the dinner.
The third and final day will be open to the media.
