SADTU Congress comes to an end

The 8th National Congress of SADTU comes to an end today on the 5th of October 2014 - a day that coincides with World Teachers` Day which celebrates teachers for their work in education.

The conference began on Thursday the 2nd of October and was addressed by President Jacob Zuma, Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga, Minister of Higher Education and Training Dr Blade Nzimande, COSATU President Sdumo Dlamini and Education International`s (EI) Deputy General Secretary Haldis Holst from Norway.

The Congress, which took place amid speculation about the formation of a splinter union, went ahead without hitches.

After three days of deliberations on education, political and on organizational issues in plenary sessions and commissions, the Congress will close today with the reading of a Declaration, and with the announcement of the Union`s new leadership.
