SADTU KZN media statement on the Non Payment of Educators in King Cetshwayo and Umkhanyakude Districts (Education Crisis)

2 March 2017

SADTU has received numerous calls from members who are teachers at UMkhanyakude and King Cetshwayo districts that have not been paid. It must be remembered that SADTU has been calling for the movement of all functions especially finance and human resource to the two districts to allow easy and quick processing of appointments and payments. It has come to the point where the Union cannot fold arms and do nothing when it has reached a situation where schools are without teachers, teachers are not paid and many other challenges.

SADTU has decided to ask for an urgent meeting with the department and the demand is that an official from the Head Office must come and provide a solution to the obtaining ensuing challenges. It must be noted that challenges confronting these teachers and districts are informed by the continued cost cutting measures by the office of the Provincial Treasury in KZN. The leadership of SADTU led by the Provincial Secretary is at Ulundi with affected members, engaging the employer.
