It is with regret that SADTU notes that the markers are starting the marking process today without there being an agreement on their remuneration.

SADTU has, on a number of occasions, been calling upon the Department of Basic Education at national level to come to the table and negotiate an interim relief as it is known the final decision on the matter will be taken by the Labour Court.

Instead, the Department has decided to unilaterally impose tariffs through Circular E25 and that is highly unacceptable. We are presently through our structures taking mandates from markers as to the approach SADTU must take on the matter. Mandates are also being collated from the other eight provinces.

SADTU is just holding its breath that the worst should not occur in the process.
